There are a million festivals to attend in Ohio during the fall, but our personal favorite is the Yellow Springs Street Fair. This year the fair will be held on Saturday, October 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ertel Publishing is a proud sponsor of the Yellow Springs Street Fair, and we certainly hope you can attend!

Late August, Early September

Where did this summer go?

Time flies when you're having fun--and here at Ertel Publishing, we have had a LOT of fun (and work!) over the past few months. Quite honestly, we don't even know where to start in our summation of the season. However, we suggest that you check out the most recent issues of Antique Power, Vintage Truck, and Patriots of the American Revolution magazines to get an idea of what we've been up to.

In other news: our Vintage Truck show this August was a blast. If you missed it, shame on you! It was a beautiful day filled with great trucks, great music, and great people. Mark your calendars now: the next show will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011. Incidentally, this will be our show's 10th anniversary. We promise to deliver some special surprises, so make sure to plan ahead and attend!

Finally, Ertel Publishing has branched out into the educational publishing field again. We are currently in the middle of a big history project, and have learned some interesting facts about World War I and the Jazz Age in the process. Did you know that, in 1918, the "Star-Spangled Banner" was sung for the first time before a baseball game? It's true. The Boston Red Sox arranged the performance to honor World War I vets in the stands.

That's all for now!

Ertel Publishing Profile: Jeremy Cundiff

We at Ertel Publishing like to showcase not only our wonderful clients and vendor partners, but also our fantastic staff members. The following is a profile of Jeremy Cundiff, Ertel Publishing's Design Supervisor.

Important Stats:
Favorite Color: Red
Favorite Food: Pizza
Favorite Movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark
Favorite Magazine: "I don’t subscribe to any magazines, so I can’t really pick a favorite. Vintage Truck is my favorite magazine that I’ve worked on. I like the design and shape of older trucks--they are works of art."

This year will be Jeremy's eleventh year with the company, but he has been an artist for as long as he can remember. His initial passion was drawing, but he eventually developed an interest in design, went to college, and earned his degree. After a few small design jobs, Jeremy interviewed at Antique Power, Inc.--which later became Ertel Publishing, Inc.--and was hired to design Vintage Truck magazine. Jeremy also designs material for various Ertel Publishing clients, including the Hart-Parr Oliver Collectors Association This year, Jeremy was promoted to Design Supervisor.

Jeremy has been married for fourteen years to his wonderful wife, Amy. Together they have two great children--Ethan, age 8, and Jonah, age 6. Says Jeremy, "Both Ethan and Jonah are talented artists already. When they’re old enough, they’ll probably put me out of a job."

Finally, when asked what he likes most about working at Ertel Publishing, Jeremy replies: "I enjoy the laid-back atmosphere. We’re like a family here, and, just like any family, everyone is dysfunctional in their own way. It keeps things fun and interesting."

Show Time!

Well, it's that time of year again--the Ertel Publishing show season. Vicki and Benjamin kick it off this week with a trip to Pleasanton, California, for the American Truck Historical Society's National Convention & Antique Truck Show. It should prove to be a great time. However, Benjamin is a little nervous. Traveling with Vicki is like traveling with the Vortex of Doom.

Regardless, other shows follow our California jaunt, including the HPOCA Summer Show in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and the Antique Truck Club of America event in Macungie, Pennsylvania. And of course, who can forget our very own Vintage Truck Show this August 7? The event is located on the grounds of Young’s Jersey Dairy on Route 68, 5 miles south of I-70 at Springfield, Ohio. The free event will include trophies for exhibitors and live music. Food and ice cream are also available. Hopefully we'll see you there!

chic mom magazine!

Back in February, we mentioned that Ertel Publishing was helping to launch a new magazine. Well, we have a few more exciting details . . .

chic mom is a guide for moms who want to rediscover their natural, chic selves. In each issue, readers will receive

* honest insight about being a mom
* thoughtful articles about life and relationships
* helpful style and shopping tips
* and a map for their chic lives.

"The reason I created chic mom in the first place," says Darcy Plunkett, the Editor-in-Chief and Founder of the magazine, "was because, though I loved my children and felt that being a mom was a gift, I felt disconnected from myself as an individual. Most of the time, the last thing I felt was 'chic.' I was looking for personal inspiration and direction to navigate my busy life as a mom while reclaiming my own 'chicness.' What evolved for me was the creation of this magazine. I am passionate about mothers and want to help them to remember that even though they may not feel it, they are naturally stylish and elegant, and deserve to honor what is chic for them in mind, body and spirit."

Ertel Publishing is proud to assist Darcy with design, editing, and marketing assistance.

The first issue of this seasonal magazine ships in June.

Primary Languages

We at Ertel Publishing love to help other companies with branding and marketing. We enjoy the brainstorming, the back-and-forth--in all, the entire process of creating a company's look, feel, and voice.

Recently, we had the honor and pleasure to assist yet another local company in their branding and marketing efforts.

Primary Languages--located in Yellow Springs, Ohio--is a language immersion school with a multiage environment, teaching preschool and elementary school children foreign languages. Primary Languages also offers an afternoon program to expand language proficiency for school-age children. In a peaceful and motivating environment, children engage in enjoyable subjects such as drama, chorus, spelling, geography and science, using foreign language as the mode of instruction.

Ertel Publishing worked with the owner of Primary Languages, Laura Skidmore, in developing design elements and copy for the company and its website. The website itself was created by our partner, Nerdy Llama Design & Marketing.

If you have a child and would like them to learn a foreign language at an early age, contact Laura at 937.532.9425.

If you would like to learn more about the marketing services provided by Ertel Publishing, contact either Benjamin or Vicki at 937.767.1433.

Springs Cottage

We have realized recently that our blog focuses primarily on our magazines, and not enough on our other projects. Today, we would like to briefly discuss our latest marketing venture.

Yellow Springs residents Rick and Chris Kristensen have recently opened Springs Cottage, a private cottage located in the heart of Yellow Springs that can sleep four people comfortably in its two bedrooms. It is ideally suited for weekend get-aways, romantic anniversaries, and business trips. Rick contacted Ertel Publishing to create Springs Cottage business cards and promotional bookmarks, and we are very proud of the results! We are also thrilled to help promote a local business. If you are thinking of spending a nice relaxing weekend in Yellow Springs, contact Rick and Chris (937.767.9900) to learn more about Springs Cottage. If you would like to learn more about the marketing services provided by Ertel Publishing, contact either Benjamin or Vicki at 937.767.1433.

Niched Out!

Ertel Publishing is proud to announce that Patriots of the American Revolution magazine is the Niched Out Magazine Of The Month! We would like to thank Carl Landau, Robyn Ireland, and the rest of the Niche Media team. Not only do they host a wonderful Niche Magazine Conference, but they are incredibly supportive of small and up-and-coming magazines. Thanks for the support!

A Quick Update!

Greetings from the road!

Pat, Vicki, and Benjamin are currently representing Antique Power magazine at the International Harvester Winter Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We've met a lot of nice people, and would like to thank all the members of the IH Collectors Club for being so friendly!

And here's a fun fact: Benjamin was chosen (somehow; we're still confused about how this happened) to be the M.C. of the event. It's always an adventure when the Ertel Publishing staff hits the road...

In other news, the March/April issue of Antique Power ships out on March 4, so keep a look out for it!

Touching Base

Well hello there!

We have to apologize for not doing a better job of blogging. Actually, we like blogging--but the truth is, we have been so busy at Ertel Publishing that our blog has slipped through the cracks! We promise, though, to post more information over the next few months.

The following is a brief summary of what's been going on at Ertel Publishing:

* Benjamin had a blast at the recent Niche Magazine Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. It's always wonderful to meet with and learn from other people in the magazine publishing field. Benjamin especially enjoyed talking with Diana Barbieri and Michael Symolon from Datatrax, and Michelle Jacoby from mJay Ink. Benjamin will also be in Auburn, Indiana, in March for the Hart-Parr Oliver Collectors Association's Winter Get-Together.

* The March/April issue of Patriots of the American Revolution is coming out this week. Make sure to check it out! Also, keep your eyes open for the upcoming March/April issue of Antique Power!

* And finally, Ertel Publishing is helping to launch a new magazine this summer! We are all very excited about this. Details will be posted over the next few months, so make sure to check back with us from time to time!
